Far-right politics of violence obsessed with historical revisionism: expert comments on violence against Ukrainians in Poland

Poland

Political expert and Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko said that until Poland deals with its citizens who commit violence against Ukrainians, the transfer of drones should be put on hold, Politeka reports.

He discussed the issue in his blog.

According to the expert, Ukrainian children were assaulted in Bydgoszcz, Poland: a 12-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were attacked because they were speaking Ukrainian to each other. Their arms were twisted and their toys were broken, which, in his view, constitutes absolute barbarism. He believes that the Ukrainian consulate and embassy should now make every effort to identify all such cases and ensure that law enforcement agencies investigate them and hold those responsible accountable. This must not become widespread in Polish society.

“To strengthen the response to this violence and xenophobia, I think we should consider suspending the agreement on the transfer of drones to Poland. Stop the transfers. Poland wants Ukraine to be a guarantor of its security. Well, if that’s the case, then stop the Poles. These Poles are running around the streets causing trouble; they are not going to shoot down drones or missiles, and they probably aren’t going to fight against Russia either. Instead, they will go to Germany and beat someone up there. If they don’t want to fight and want Ukraine to be their security guarantor, then far-right politics of violence obsessed with historical revisionism must be stopped,” Oleksandr Musiienko argues.

According to him, politicians from the Law and Justice party should now come forward and publicly state that Ukrainians must not be harassed. They should instruct the police accordingly and establish community-based public safety measures. Until that happens, the expert says, the transfer of sensitive technologies to Poland should be put on hold, and this cooperation should be paused.

“I wouldn’t want that. You know, I was hoping for something different. I had hoped that Polish politicians would act in the spirit of joint efforts and a shared understanding of the common threats posed by Russia, but we are not seeing that. There is hope that Ukraine will continue to be a security guarantor for Poland. But what for? So that Poles can beat us afterward? No. Find other security guarantors if this position does not change,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
