Pressure from former U.S. President Donald Trump's administration on Ukraine to cede part of its territory to Russia is a form of "modern appeasement," according to Biden.

The former U.S. president emphasized that he had repeatedly warned that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin would not stop if allowed to gain territory through a peace deal. In an interview, Biden stated that “people who believe otherwise are fools.”

During a speech on May 5 in Delaware, Biden expressed concern over the rift in U.S.-Europe relations during Trump's presidency. He believes that the current American leader “will reshape modern world history.”

In his comments to journalists, Biden criticized Trump’s proposals to reclaim the Panama Canal, buy Greenland, and make Canada the 51st state.

Biden also addressed the Trump administration's statements suggesting Ukraine should surrender part of its territory in order to reach a peace agreement.

The former president expressed worry that Europe might lose confidence in America's role as a global leader.

Biden stressed that under his leadership, the U.S. had given Ukraine adequate support. He recalled that during the three years of Russia's full-scale invasion, the White House had gradually lifted some restrictions.

“We gave them everything necessary to secure their independence and were ready to respond more forcefully if Putin escalated again,” Biden added.
