"This is a bifurcation point": expert tells what will happen after the talks in Istanbul on May 15

talks in Istanbul

Military expert Oleg Starikov said that if the talks on May 15 fail, it will be a major scandal that will have the most serious consequences for the initiator of the failure, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his channel.

"We have determined almost to the day when decisions will be made not only de facto, but also de jure to end the hot phase of the Russian-Ukrainian war. May 15 is the time for the parties to the conflict to make a strategic decision. This is a bifurcation point or, in other words, a critical point, a turning point, a moment of choice, a moment of truth," Oleg Starikov emphasizes.

Now, he states, the military-political leadership of the countries will need to make a strategic decision, one of several possible ones, which in historical terms will influence the further development of the situation for many years. And it will not be possible to run away, the expert warns, or to postpone it to the 16th, 17th or some other date either. In his opinion, not long ago it was impossible to imagine even in a dream that irreconcilable opponents would begin negotiations with authorized delegations on May 15. The expert emphasizes that we are talking about negotiations, not consultations, that is, this is a completely different form of interstate relations.

If someone decides to jump off or leave, he states, then this will be the largest global diplomatic scandal, which will result in sanctions and the most serious consequences for the side that does it.

"Therefore, the negotiating group must be ready for tough dialogues with sound arguments and a flexible position of representing national interests. You can compromise on one issue, but negotiate a compromise on another issue with the opponent. Congratulations, overestimation of one's capabilities, underestimation of the enemy, as was the case during Istanbul-1, will no longer work. “Both sides are on a track that leads to the conclusion of a truce and a peace treaty, and the US will not allow them to deviate from it,” concludes Oleg Starikov.
