Political strategist assesses whether there will be a truce after the talks in Istanbul

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman explained that there will be no agreements with the Russians in Istanbul, but a truce is more likely if there is pressure, Politeka reports.
He wrote about this in his blog.
“When the West, when the European Union talks about a truce, they, of course, are not only talking about drones, but talking about what is happening on the front line. And everything is happening on the front line. War, war, war. Military action has not decreased. Here, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that they captured the village of Mirolyubovka in the Donetsk region. If they think that capturing the village of Mirolyubovka is a step towards peace, that this is negotiations, that this is a peace process, that this is a truce, then they need to be informed that this is not so,” Mikhail Sheitelman states.
By the way, the expert notes, When Germany gave Russia until the end of the day to agree to a 30-day truce, it made a mistake by not specifying the time. According to him, ultimatums are not given like that, they should be like in the film "That Same Munchausen", 16:00 - war with England, so here the Europeans lost the initiative.
Nevertheless, the expert emphasizes, Europe did not refuse the ultimatum, because when Bloomberg wrote that European leaders would call on Trump to impose sanctions against Russia if Putin refused to meet with Zelensky or did not agree to a truce after the negotiations on May 15, this concerned specifically American sanctions. That is, he explains, Trump is waiting for the results of these negotiations, Rubio will be there from him, and the Europeans are not taking part, they are preparing their own sanctions.
"But this cannot end with an agreement, in the sense of negotiations with Russia. And can the American-European ultimatum end in a ceasefire? Yes, I believe in it, it can happen. If Putin still has some gray matter left in his head, then I fully believe that as a result of this ultimatum and pressure, Putin will agree to a 30-day ceasefire. I am ready to believe in this," Mikhail Sheitelman reasons.
