Military expert Oleg Starikov explained that the Russian-Ukrainian war is no longer interesting to the United States, they can withdraw from the process, but it is unclear whether Europe will be able to replace them, Politeka reports.

"Here comes the time, which I call time X, the critical point, when the situation will go either one way or the other. Confirmation of this is the statement of President Trump: "The issue of settlement in Ukraine has reached a critical moment." That's it, the time has come for the two warring parties to make a decision. Washington made it clear to Kyiv and its main Western allies that Ukraine and the Russian Federation must find a solution on their own, if not, it will withdraw from the negotiations," Oleg Starikov asserts.

So, the expert states, Trump hangs over the parties like the sword of Damocles, the Russian army has a strategic initiative, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are in strategic defense and are slowly grinding down the enemy's forces, the Kremlin has built a system of protection against sanctions and has launched the first phase of the summer military campaign of 2025, without waiting for the end of the negotiations.

"The US always perceives war as a business project. If it stops bringing profit, the US, without bothering, leaves it. According to science, a regional conflict is resolved if the opponents have reached a positional impasse. And only an external force is needed that is able to seat them at the negotiating table and stop the fire using the carrot and stick method," explains Oleg Starikov.

According to him, if the US withdraws from the negotiation process, a "coalition of the willing" can provide assistance for the time being, but the question arises of what will happen next, because no one has made a serious calculation, a forecast of events. According to the expert, it is impossible to rely only on the strategy of a drone line, which stops the enemy at 5-10 km and slowly destroys, because Russia is also developing drones and protection against them. Therefore, he states, Trump wants the parties to come to a compromise, believing, as a businessman, that there is not much time.
