Expert says Germany will give Ukraine Taurus instead: “This is for the long term”

war in Ukraine

Political expert and military officer Oleksandr Musienko explained that financing the Ukrainian missile program is also about the security of Europe, which itself mainly purchases missiles from the US, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this in his blog.

According to the expert, President Zelenskyy’s successful visit to Germany took place, there is no information about Taurus, but there is other interesting and important news. According to BILD, he notes that the German government is considering the possibility of allocating funds to Ukraine to create its own cruise missiles with a range of up to 2,500 km, we are talking about millions of euros for independent development and serial production.

“When it comes not only to cruise missiles, but also to ballistics, I am often asked: “What about the missile program?” Yes, it should be, yes, it is important, but there is a question of financing. Without financing from our partners, it is quite difficult to do here. How can we achieve this financing? We need to convince and motivate our Western friends that this is in their interests,” Oleksandr Musienko states.

As he explains, Europe does not have operational-tactical missile systems, ballistics, all of this is purchased from the USA, for example, ATACMS. The same, the expert adds, applies to cruise missiles, either American Tomahawks or, perhaps, German Taurus are used here.

“And here Europe gets a unique chance, because Ukraine knows how to do it, Ukraine has the appropriate technologies, Ukraine has the capabilities and Ukraine can produce together with partners. But Ukraine needs funds, and this is where we can invest. This is how it can be mutually beneficial for Europe. Therefore, I hope that Germany and our other European friends will follow this path, investing in the Ukrainian defense industry. Don’t you want to give us? Okay, let’s invest. Yes, it’s longer, yes, more problems, but still it’s for the long term,” Oleksandr Musienko concludes.
