Trump does not want: expert explains why the US is slowing down sanctions against Russia

Trump

Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik explained why the US is in no hurry to introduce new sanctions against Russia and blocked the G7 proposal to lower the price ceiling for Russian oil to $45-50, Politeka reports.
He wrote about this in his blog.
As the expert says, Trump explained his position on sanctions by the fact that this could disrupt the deal with Russia, and indeed, at the meeting of G7 finance ministers in Canada, the US blocked the proposal regarding the price ceiling for oil. It must be understood, he emphasizes, that in fact the US does not have many options left regarding sanctions against Russia, moreover, they are all dangerous from many points of view.

"Any reduction in the ceiling or the introduction of sanctions by 500% will mean restrictions for third countries that trade with Russia. They are the ones who buy Russian oil, Russian energy resources. "Restrictions for China, Turkey, India, and many others will clearly not improve US relations with these countries in conditions where the general US tariff policy has already failed," explains Ruslan Bortnik.

As he recalls, the US court first cancelled Trump's tariffs on other countries, and then the appellate court reinstated this policy. At the same time, the expert continues, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that US-China negotiations on trade tariffs have reached a dead end, and a phone call between Trump and Xi Jinping may be needed to resolve them.

"You see how difficult the situation is, how complex and fragile the balance is today. It seems that everyone is fighting in a crystal room, where any careless move will simply lead to the shop windows, walls, and ceiling crumbling on everyone's heads," emphasizes Ruslan Bortnik.
