The parties have diametrically opposed positions, no convergence or common ground is visible - expert on the negotiations

negotiations in Istanbul

Political expert and military officer Oleksandr Musienko said that the negotiations in Istanbul have again yielded no results, except for the exchange of prisoners, and Russia is preparing to fight further, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this in his blog.

"The negotiations in Istanbul ended on June 2 - nothing breakthrough, unfortunately, as predicted. There is not much good news here. Why? Because so far the only thing that was agreed upon directly at the meeting in Istanbul that can be called positive is the exchange of prisoners. And after this meeting, apparently, we are waiting for a big exchange again. As for other issues, the parties have diametrically opposed positions, no convergence or common ground is visible," Oleksandr Musienko notes.

As we have seen, he reminds us, Russia continues to insist on its own - the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions, the protection of Russian-speaking people, neutral status, demilitarization, which is absolutely unacceptable for Ukraine. So, the expert states, after the negotiations on May 16, the Russian position has not changed at all.

According to him, all this indicates that the war will continue, Russia clearly demonstrates its readiness to continue fighting. In particular, the expert reminds us, we see the Russian offensive in Sumy and Donetsk regions, unfortunately, in some areas the enemy has tactical successes, so we will be able to change the position of the aggressor only with operations like "Web".

"Russia believes that it is now able to achieve certain successes militarily, and in the summer campaign it will try to do this. Therefore, during the summer and even autumn, it is not necessary to count on Istanbul and the Istanbul format having any breakthrough. "Unless we see 1, 2, 3 more such special operations by the Security Service of Ukraine, our intelligence, the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the territory of Russia, which will be able to throw Putin off balance, and Russia will have no other choice but to make concessions," concludes Oleksandr Musienko.
