"The story with sanctions has disappeared": an expert explained how the West is going to put pressure on Russia

sanctions

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman explained that the peaceful settlement from the Trump administration does not work because they do not give weapons to Ukraine and do not impose sanctions against Russia, Politeka reports.

He wrote about this in his blog.
As the expert says, US Vice President Vance recently made another statement, and he again accused Biden of insanely financing Ukraine, that no one before Trump even tried to achieve diplomatic regulation of the war, said that the White House administration will try to stop aggression everywhere. Nevertheless, he notes, we understand that good intentions alone are not enough.
"Notice that the story with sanctions has disappeared. As if that's it, as if it never happened. Where is our friend Senator Graham? He was just running around, everyone was just shouting that everything was over, right now... And now there are no negotiations. No one is discussing the memorandums – neither ours nor non-Russians. Where? There are no negotiations, right? And no one is dealing with sanctions now either,” emphasizes Mikhail Sheitelman.

The European Commission reported, he says, that they will try to approve a new package of sanctions against Russia this month, on June 20, but also noted that Brussels is waiting for a signal from the United States. That is, the expert explains, the calculation is that the G7 summit will be successfully held in Canada on June 15-17, and after it everyone will act as a united front, in a single impulse against Russia.

“But for now, this 18th package of sanctions is starting to look like the last 5-10 packages, which are almost useless. Because the requirement to ban trade in Russian gas has already been removed from it. Now the EU insists on lowering the price ceiling for Russian oil so that it is less than $60 per barrel. But now we will also see who agrees to this. In general, that’s how it is. “Preparations for sanctions are going neither well nor badly, as they are,” concludes Mikhail Sheitelman.
