Israeli Officer Explains Why Russians on the Front Use Motorcycles and Zhigulis: “It’s a Cannibalistic Tactic”

Israeli Defense Forces officer Yigal Levin stated that the war has severely depleted Russia’s equipment reserves. However, he warned against hoping for a quick peace, saying the Kremlin will not rest until it is defeated, according to Politeka.
He made these comments during Valeriy Savchuk’s author program “Different People.”
“Motorcycles are part of the tactic—it's about trying to quickly cross the grey zone to reach the enemy’s line. Okay, that’s debatable. But the tactic is cannibalistic, because out of 100 motorcyclists, 90 will be devoured, and 10 will make it and secure a position. If you have an endless number of people willing to die and you don’t care about losses, then the tactic is valid. Fine, it’s debatable. But the use of Zhigulis—that’s a direct indication you have no equipment. Because it’s hard for me to imagine a soldier on the front line choosing a Zhiguli over an APC,” Levin said.
According to him, the Russians have largely exhausted their supplies and have turned to using old Soviet stock. Tanks are now often used from concealed positions as stationary fire points. Regarding the navy, he added, Ukraine has destroyed many Russian ships, and the remaining ones had to be hidden.
Nevertheless, Levin emphasized that all talk of freezing the conflict or reaching some kind of deal is empty chatter because Russia will not stop until it subjugates Ukraine—whether by military means, manipulation, internal destabilization, hybrid tactics, or otherwise. He noted that in Israel, whole generations grew up in a state of war with Egypt, so Ukrainians should not place false hope in the war ending this year, next year, or any time soon.
“Russia is in this for the long haul. It will only calm down when it has been thoroughly beaten. And it must be beaten. Ukraine is hitting it with drones—there was the ‘Web’ operation. But we need to understand this isn’t a fixed event in a vacuum. It’s not like ‘Web’ happened and that’s it. I’m sure Ukraine’s intelligence services—SBU, GUR, and others—are preparing further operations to continue hitting Russia. That was a painful and irrecoverable blow to its strategic aviation. That’s why the enemy must be hit. Peace only comes with defeated enemies, and Russia must be defeated,” Levin emphasized.
