"There Is No Trump as a Lifeline for Us" – Political Technologist on U.S. Attitudes Toward Ukraine

Political technologist Serhiy Haidai explained that neither society nor the authorities should have placed their hopes on Trump when it comes to ending the war, because shifting responsibility is not a path to victory, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this in the program "Dialogues" with Ruslan Bortnyk.
According to the guest of the program, when it comes to war, there are no non-political decisions, because war is politics by other means, and therefore the U.S. decision to suspend aid is a political one. According to the expert, as soon as the results of the U.S. election came in, he immediately said that we needed to forget about Trump.
"At that time, society split into two halves. Some saw Trump’s return as a catastrophe. Why? Because he actively stated that, unlike Biden, he would quickly sort out this war, make a deal with Putin, and resolve everything. The other part of society said that once Trump realizes that a diplomatic solution with Putin is impossible, he’ll hit back with sanctions or flood us with weapons," Haidai explains.
According to the expert, he was convinced from the start that Trump would do nothing to confront Putin. But our authorities would seize the moment, use his promise to end the war, and shift the responsibility for peace away from themselves. That is, he explains, the 2023 counteroffensive failed, but then Trump came, and he promised to take care of everything.
"And I was absolutely right. For the last six months, the main topic across all of Ukraine’s information space has been Trump. And the discourse, which is more or less provoked and sustained by the authorities and bloggers, has signs of madness. On the one hand, they call Trump a Russian agent, an idiot, an incompetent man; they show KIIS polls where 72% of Ukrainians consider Trump an enemy, they draw caricatures of him. On the other hand, they’re on their knees with outstretched hands saying: ‘Trump, save us.’ Let’s make a decision. If he is our enemy, then we should follow my plan. Forget about him – there is no Trump as a lifeline for us. We must act independently," Serhiy Haidai explains.
