Political Expert Explains What Made Trump Change His Mind and Resume Weapons Deliveries to Ukraine

Political expert and military serviceman Oleksandr Musiyenko explained that the halt in weapons supplies to Ukraine was widely criticized both in the United States and around the world, which led Trump to reverse his decision under pressure, Politeka reports.
He shared this in his blog.
“Trump is preparing a surprise for Putin, and Putin might not like it, judging by the rhetoric now being used by the 47th President of the United States. At least in terms of rhetoric — let’s start from there. We’re expecting concrete real actions against Russia — meaning harsh sanctions, increased weapons supplies to Ukraine, and so on. A shift from words and warnings to actual deeds. Trump has made such statements before, giving Putin two to three weeks to change his approach and be ready for negotiations,” Musiyenko noted.
According to the expert, it’s unclear whether Trump would have resumed weapons deliveries to Ukraine without the pressure — including from Ukraine itself — especially considering that his most recent conversation with Zelenskyy was very positive and the most constructive yet.
In addition, Musiyenko says, Trump faced pressure from the media — particularly those aligned with Republicans and popular among them, such as The New York Post, The Wall Street Journal, and Newsmax — all of which criticized the suspension of military aid to Ukraine.
Another source of pressure, the expert adds, was criticism from Republican politicians themselves, who publicly expressed dissatisfaction and even considered summoning the Secretary of Defense to the Senate for explanations.
He also recalled that on July 4th, Independence Day in the U.S., a letter addressed to Trump was published, signed by around 70 leading European politicians and public figures, emphasizing the importance of continuing support for Ukraine.
“Moreover, German Chancellor Merz is now playing a significant role — he frequently speaks by phone with the U.S. President. These conversations concern European security, the importance of supporting Ukraine, and supplying it with weapons. Merz repeatedly stresses that Germany, along with other European countries, is ready to purchase the necessary weapons — he emphasizes this to Trump. That is also an important factor because, no matter what, economic calculations do matter.
The combination of all these factors ultimately influenced the U.S. President’s decision to authorize aid to Ukraine,” Musiyenko concludes.
