The West’s Strategy: Expert Explains How Ukraine Can Defeat Russia

war

Military expert Oleh Starikov explained that in the Russia-Ukraine war, the West has chosen a strategy of slowly exhausting the aggressor, which could eventually lead to a change of power in Russia.
He discussed this on his own channel.

“Many analysts and observers view the West’s actions in the context of the war in Ukraine as a strategy aimed at wearing down Russia—militarily, economically, and politically—without the explicit goal of achieving a decisive victory over Russia or a clear defeat for Ukraine. This strategy became apparent after the U.S. exited Biden’s war,” said Oleh Starikov.

According to the expert, signs of this war of attrition include Western support for Ukraine in the form of weapons, intelligence, and financial aid, which allows Ukraine to contain Russia without the direct involvement of NATO troops. Additionally, he says, the West is restricting Russia’s access to resources, technology, and capital through sanctions, which are also being extended to Russia’s allies.

Starikov also notes that within expert circles and the media, there is frequent discussion of the idea that this long-term attrition could trigger an internal crisis in Russia, weakening the regime and transforming its political system—although this is not stated officially.

“A historical analogy: this resembles the U.S. strategy in Afghanistan during the 1980s, when support for the mujahideen led to a prolonged war and the exhaustion of the USSR. There was no direct conflict then either, but the result was the strategic weakening of the opponent and the collapse of the Soviet Union,” Starikov explained.

Nonetheless, he adds, there is an alternative view among Western experts. For example, some analysts believe that the sanctions have not achieved the intended effect and have only strengthened internal mobilization within Russia. Others point out that a protracted conflict could end up economically and politically draining the West itself.
