Expert Assesses Whether Russia Can Occupy Donbas: “They’d Need to Fight at Least Until 2029”

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko stated that the 50 days Trump gave to Putin is yet another example of the American president’s naivety, as Russia plans to continue the war, Politeka reports.
He shared this in his blog.

According to the expert, Reuters writes that Trump’s threats did not intimidate Putin, and Russia intends to continue the war against Ukraine until the West agrees to its terms. Putin believes, Musiienko says, that the Russian economy is strong enough to withstand any additional sanctions, and so the Kremlin's territorial demands may only grow as Russian forces advance.

“An obsession with war – there you have it. So it’s naïve of the American president to think that Putin and the Russians want peace – that’s absolutely not the case. We see it on the battlefield: the enemy is pushing forward, in some areas building up forces and resources to continue offensive operations. Disregarding losses, they launch numerous human wave assaults. Again, terrorist strikes on Ukrainian cities, civilian infrastructure, and objects – all of this proves that Putin is solely seeking war, aggression, escalation. And Trump keeps waiting, gives a week or two, then another two, and now 50 days – hoping something will change. It won’t,” Musiienko stated.

In his opinion, even if the Reuters article is disinformation, the content still reflects reality. However, the expert notes that there’s clearly an information operation (IPSO) embedded in the claim that Putin may increase territorial demands.

“He won’t increase anything, because according to calculations by analysts from The Economist, Russia would need to fight at least until 2029 in order to try to occupy – within the borders of the administrative-territorial units – all the regions constantly mentioned: Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia. And Ukraine’s Defense Forces, the Ukrainian people, will not allow this to happen,” Musiienko emphasized.
