"Clever Trump is Trying to Outsmart Everyone": Expert Assesses Whether Putin Will Make Concessions

Donald Trump, Putin

Political analyst Ruslan Bortnyk explained that Trump, with his seemingly friendly attitude, is trying to push Putin into making concessions. However, according to statements coming from the Kremlin, Russia is not afraid of any sanctions and plans to continue the war, Politeka reports.
He shared this in his blog.

According to the expert, Lavrov stated that Russia and its trading partners are not concerned about Trump’s tariffs or any 50-day ultimatums; they are handling the sanctions and will therefore continue the war. His deputy, Ryabkov, added that Russia rejects all ultimatums and that if its willingness to negotiate finds no response, its goals will continue to be pursued through the so-called “special military operation.” Medvedev, for his part, said that Russia is indifferent to Trump’s theatrical threats.

“I’m giving you these quotes to help you understand that there is most likely no backroom deal between Russia and the U.S. What’s happening is a complex game in which clever Trump is trying to outplay everyone,” Bortnyk concludes.

He also notes that Trump said he had almost reached agreements with Putin four times, but each time something went wrong, and he’s very unhappy about that. In the expert’s view, this is a rather naive position — believing that just because a conversation went well, an agreement was reached. As he explains, a real agreement means documents have been signed — especially when we're talking about seasoned, experienced politicians.

“This actually means that Trump is trying to be cunning. He hopes he can ‘sell’ his good attitude toward Putin and force Putin to concede something real. Putin, in turn, is also playing the game of good relations, but he’s not willing to concede anything real. So here we have two grown men, two very experienced leaders, winking at each other, virtually embracing, exchanging compliments — while in reality, they’re still at war and trying to outmaneuver each other,” Ruslan Bortnyk explains.
