“This is a proxy war in the sense that China is helping Russia with everything it needs,” – political analyst and serviceman

China

Political analyst and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko stated that the Russia–Ukraine war and the risks posed by China in the Pacific region, which the United States fears, are interconnected, Politeka reports.

He shared this in his blog.

As Musiienko notes, U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker stated that China is waging a proxy war in Ukraine through Russia, aiming to tie down the U.S. and its allies so they cannot focus on other strategic challenges. However, according to the ambassador, China has miscalculated, and it must be held accountable for subsidizing killings in Ukraine.

“Of course, this is a proxy war in the sense that China is helping Russia with everything it needs: components, technologies, drones—demonstrating a certain one-sidedness, as they ban the export of dual-use technologies to Ukraine but not to Russia for some reason. They also purchase Russian oil and gas and invest heavily in the Russian economy,” Musiienko emphasizes.

At the same time, he points out that Whitaker essentially says that the problems in Europe prevent the U.S. from focusing on other strategic challenges. But the Russia–Ukraine war is a strategic challenge. As the analyst explains, China is a strategic adversary of the U.S., and it is currently waging war against Ukraine through Russia, undermining the strength of the West. All of this is interconnected. And if people across the ocean fail to see it, he notes, it raises doubts about the U.S.’s ability to remain a global leader—a role now being claimed by China and countries of the Global South, which are rallying around Beijing.

“That's why these issues are absolutely connected. And it's strange to hear someone—even a respected ambassador—try to separate them. No, they cannot be separated, because it's all part of the same issue, and the response must be appropriate,” Musiienko concludes.
