“Kellogg’s Shield to Kyiv, and Whitkoff’s Sword to Moscow”: Expert Assesses How This Diplomatic Round Will End

Keith Kellogg, U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman commented on the upcoming visits of Trump’s special envoys to Kyiv and Moscow, stating that there will be no strikes on Ukraine and that Whitkoff will once again attempt to sell Ukraine out to Putin, Politeka reports.

He shared his thoughts on his blog.

According to the expert, President Trump’s special envoy, Keith Kellogg—already being referred to as “the shield”—is expected to visit Ukraine again. These are, he admits, rumors, but whenever Kellogg is in Ukraine, the Russians refrain from launching massive strikes on Ukrainian cities—apparently fearing that if anything were to happen to Trump’s representative, American nuclear submarines might end up off Russia’s shores.

“They decided: Kellogg to Kyiv, Whitkoff to Moscow. Kellogg’s shield to Kyiv, and Whitkoff’s sword to Moscow. They’re hoping he’ll finally drive that weapon in and twist it twice when it comes to Putin. But the hope is weak,” Sheitelman emphasizes.

In the expert’s opinion, the Kremlin itself asked the White House—perhaps through Secretary of State Rubio—to send Whitkoff, as they like this particular Trump envoy. He’s “kind” and will “save Russia” both from the U.S. and from Ukraine. Especially since Putin is reportedly in a fragile emotional state due to an ultimatum and needs support. According to KyivPost’s Washington correspondent, Sheitelman notes, Trump told his advisers he believes Whitkoff’s trip to Moscow is pointless, even though he publicly stated that the visit’s purpose is to strike a deal and stop the killings.

“We’re a bit scared now that Whitkoff will go and once again sell Ukraine out to Putin—and then we’ll have to deploy Kellogg again to explain to Whitkoff that nothing’s going to happen. We’ve been through all of this already—four times, in fact. Four times Whitkoff has traveled to Russia to sell Ukraine to Putin.

We’re not going to be sold to that old man sitting on a bench. Tell Whitkoff that. It’s not going to happen. That crumpled shirt of a Putin holds no interest for us,” Sheitelman concludes.
