Siege Warfare: Expert Explains How the Russians Breached Our Kill Zone in the Pokrovske Direction

war in Ukraine

Military expert Oleh Starikov explained what happened in the Pokrovske direction and why the Russians were able to concentrate their forces and pass through our kill zone, according to Politeka.

He shared his insights on his channel.

“The Russians secretly moved their personnel deep into the tactical and operational rear of our grouping. How did they do it? I call the tactic the enemy is currently using ‘siege warfare’ — that is, city sieges. They’re not in a rush, they’re not making major breakthroughs, but they’re digging, undermining, flanking, encircling, and so on. Remember the operation with the pipeline on the Kursk bridgehead? This is basically the same thing, just executed differently,” said Oleh Starikov.

As the expert explains, about 10–15 days ago, the Russians equipped their forward assault units. They advanced slowly — up to a kilometer per day — maneuvering around our defensive nodes without engaging in direct combat and managed to penetrate tactical and operational depths.

“You might ask me: how did they do that? After all, we have a kill zone, right? A kill zone is serious — it’s a fully monitored area, controlled 24/7, up to 10 km deep. To even reach the line of contact, you need to stay alive. They used camouflage. What kind of camouflage? It may sound funny, but they used camouflage cloaks that prevented our reconnaissance systems from detecting them,” Starikov explains.

According to the expert, these assault troops were guided by drones, so it was a coordinated group. They managed to infiltrate stealthily, concentrate their forces, and once the operation was launched, they revealed themselves and began attacking our defensive nodes from the rear and flanks, causing confusion and panic among the defenders.
