"A Non-NATO Agreement": Expert Explains What Security Guarantees the U.S. Might Offer Ukraine

Donald Trump, war in Ukraine

Military expert Oleg Starikov explained that the most important thing for Ukraine right now is to obtain strong security guarantees. As for territories, they will return eventually — even China waited 99 years for Hong Kong, reports Politeka.

He discussed this on his own channel.

According to the expert, the topic of security guarantees for Ukraine has recently gained momentum: Trump spoke about it, Putin stated he was not opposed, and even China made comments. In Starikov's view, what’s currently being discussed is a strategic security agreement between the U.S. and Ukraine, similar to the agreements the U.S. has with Israel, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan — that is, an alliance treaty outside of NATO. This, he believes, is what was likely discussed with Putin.

"This kind of agreement outside of NATO. And that’s much more serious. No one really dares to attack the countries that have such agreements with the U.S. Even Taiwan — although China tries to make moves there. President Trump said that as long as he is in office, China will not take any serious steps against Taiwan. Right? He said that himself," Oleg Starikov emphasized.

Overall, the expert asserts, it can be confidently said that Ukraine has won the Russo-Ukrainian war. First, Ukraine has defended its sovereignty from the political influence of the enemy; second, Ukraine has preserved its statehood.

"Those who disagree with what I’m saying usually bring up the issue of territory. Fine. China waited 99 years for Hong Kong to return. Did Hong Kong return? It did. But that happened in the post–World War II period, when the world was transitioning into new technological cycles. And now we’re moving into the sixth technological cycle, which is completely different. So no one knows what will happen in five years — let alone ten," Oleg Starikov explained.
