Discreditation, Provocation, and Testing Air Defense Systems: Expert Explains What the Russian UAV Was Doing in Poland

war in Ukraine

Political expert and military serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko commented on the crash of a Russian drone in Poland and explained why Russia is doing this and what the enemy is planning for Europe, Politeka reports.
He shared his thoughts in his blog.

According to the expert, the Polish prosecutor's office preliminarily believes that the drone, which crashed at night in a cornfield near Lublin, is a military UAV. At the same time, sources in Poland’s Ministry of Defense say the drone was not carrying a warhead, meaning it was a decoy — a "Geran"-type drone, which Russia has previously launched through Belarus into Lithuania.

"The purpose of such drones is to engage air defense systems, to distract them from real combat UAVs. For now, authorities can’t identify the manufacturer. But what is there to determine? Tell me, does anyone have doubts about what kind of drone this is, where it came from, or who launched it? I, for one, have no doubts, because Russia is systematically testing air defense systems. Moreover, the Russia-Belarus joint military exercises 'Zapad-2025' are coming up, and Russia is already preparing, already conducting corresponding provocations," Oleksandr Musiienko explains.

He also reminds that not long ago in Germany, someone set fire to military trucks — and this wasn’t the first incident. The Germans are investigating and have involved counterintelligence because this is no longer a police matter — it’s foreign interference, namely from Russia. Additionally, the expert adds, many unidentified drones entered German airspace during 2024–2025, and it’s clear that this too is Russia’s doing.

"Why is Russia doing this? To demonstrate what they perceive as the West's weakness — to suggest that NATO is ineffective, incapable of defending itself, and unable to come to a unified decision on how to act or how to intercept drones," Musiienko concludes.
