Negotiation Process Could Be Scaled Up at the End of August – Expert

Political analyst Ruslan Bortnyk stated that if Trump visits China on September 2, there will be a chance to discuss a new geopolitical balance and bring the Russia–Ukraine war closer to an end, reports Politeka.
He shared this in his blog.
“Potentially, the current negotiation process could be scaled up at the end of August during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, which brings together the largest political and economic systems of the Global South — Russia, China, India. Many countries have confirmed their participation. And the SCO summit may precede Trump’s possible visit to China. A small chance still remains,” noted Ruslan Bortnyk.
As the expert recalled, on September 2 China will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, and it is possible that Trump will be there. In that case, he added, talks could take place in the China–Russia–US format, or in a West–Global South format, during which a model of a new geopolitical balance might emerge.
“Without a model of a new geopolitical balance, it is impossible to resolve everything solely at the level of Ukraine–Russia relations. The attempt to do so was already made through the Minsk agreements of 2014–2022,” Bortnyk emphasized.
In his opinion, the failure of the Minsk agreements clearly demonstrated that without addressing the issue of global relations between the US and Russia, peace in Ukraine is impossible. Moreover, he added, there remain a number of internal issues related to the civilizational collapse of the Soviet Union and the cultural structure of the post-Soviet space, since the Kremlin’s demands regarding the status of the Russian language and the church stem directly from this.
