"Zaporizhzhia Axis Is the Gateway to Southern Ukraine": Expert Explains What Is Happening on the Front

Military expert Oleh Starikov described the situation on the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson fronts, why holding positions there is crucial, and whether Ukraine’s Armed Forces are maintaining their defense, Politeka reports.
He shared this on his channel.
According to the expert, heavy fighting continues on the Zaporizhzhia axis, especially around Orikhiv, Stepnohirsk, and Prymorske. In the Orikhiv area, he says, positional clashes persist: both sides are reinforcing their lines, while Russian forces attempt to push Ukrainian troops from key heights. In Stepnohirsk and Prymorske, assaults and drone attacks are intense.
“The tactic is a maneuver-based offensive aimed at controlling strategic points, especially elevations and logistical hubs. The Zaporizhzhia axis is the gateway to southern Ukraine. A breakthrough here could disrupt the supply of Ukraine’s Armed Forces along the front line and threaten the entire southern arc of defense, including Kherson and Nikopol,” Starikov explains.
On the Kherson axis, he notes, early September has seen continued high-intensity shelling but no large-scale ground assaults. Strikes target both military infrastructure and riverfront areas near the Antonivskyi Bridge, causing civilian casualties.
“The enemy has begun an operation on the Kherson axis to fence off and isolate the staging area for future combat. All moving equipment—civilian and military alike—is being destroyed. The Kherson axis is strategically important as the southern flank of the entire front. Both sides aim to control the Dnipro crossings,” Starikov concludes.
