Ukrainian Forces Continue Counterattacks – Expert Explains What Is Happening in Donetsk Region

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko said that while the Armed Forces of Ukraine are successfully counterattacking on the front, the EU and the US are preparing to jointly hit Russia with sanctions, Politeka reports.
He shared this in his blog.

“Our defenders managed to liberate the settlement of Zarichne in Donetsk region. This is very important news. Ukrainian forces continue to counterattack whenever there is an opportunity. They are not simply holding the enemy in passive defense but are counterattacking, inflicting losses, pushing the enemy back, and preventing further advances. This is crucial, because Russia continues redeploying troops it used in Kursk and Sumy regions during its failed offensives. These troops are intended for use in Donetsk region, since the enemy’s strategic goal remains the same – to seize Donetsk oblast,” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.

For now, he notes, there has been no reaction from the international community. However, on September 8, consultations are scheduled in Washington between EU trade and economic representatives and their US counterparts to discuss tougher sanctions against Russia, so we will see what happens next.

Regarding the frontline, the expert points out an important statement by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to Syrskyi, he says, after losing 5 km in the Pokrovsk sector in August, the Defense Forces have regained control over 26 km of Ukrainian land; a similar ratio in our favor is observed in the Dobropillia sector as well.

“Here are the numbers. And how did it all start just a few weeks ago? After that raid in the Dobropillia direction, where Russia broke through with its sabotage-reconnaissance groups, it might have seemed that the enemy would entrench itself and Ukraine’s defense would collapse. But no — Ukraine continues to hold Donetsk region and even pushes the enemy back. So all of Putin’s wishes and claims that Ukraine must give Donetsk region to Russia… Well, come and take it. But it isn’t working,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
