The Kremlin may stage provocations during these exercises and test NATO’s response – expert on “Zapad-2025”

Moscow, Kreml

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko stated that already during the “Zapad-2025” drills, Russia might carry out some kind of provocation, which is why NATO countries need to be prepared, Politeka reports.
He said this in his blog.

“These days, alongside the ‘Zapad-2025’ exercises starting in Belarus, the ‘Quadriga-2025’ exercises will take place – one of NATO’s largest drills. In particular, one of the stages will be held in the Baltic states, specifically in Lithuania. These drills will include repelling a possible Russian invasion of European countries. After all, as Mertz notes, aggression against Ukraine is only the beginning, not the end. The goal is the enslavement and destruction of Europe. That is the goal Putin has set, and this must be countered,” Oleksandr Musiienko said.

Military analyst Philip Ingram, writing for The Sun, he noted, says that Putin may strike at NATO’s Achilles’ heel – the Suwałki Gap, the shortest strip of land between Russia’s Kaliningrad region and allied Belarus. According to the analyst, he stressed, seizing this corridor would in effect cut off the Baltic states from their NATO allies.

Therefore, the expert concludes, Russia’s and Belarus’s actions must be compared with what happened on the eve of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and interpreted as signals. In addition, he adds, Ingram reminds of hybrid warfare: GPS jamming, sabotage of underwater cables, “little green men” stirring unrest among Russian-speaking minorities, propaganda, economic pressure, and so on.

“I consistently hold the view that the Kremlin is preparing. Moreover, the Kremlin may stage provocations already during these exercises and test NATO’s reaction. What will happen to us for this? Let’s try to strike. Let’s provoke. Let’s have some military helicopters or planes violate the airspace of the Baltic states. How will Brussels and NATO respond? That is the goal Putin is setting. And he may well be testing the reaction in this way,” Oleksandr Musiienko explained.
