The Tone for the 21st Century Has Been Set: Expert Speaks on Dangerous Global Trends

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman explained that today, standing on the brink of a world war, all countries must decide who they stand with and what they are fighting for. Europe, he says, must finally adopt a unified position, according to Politeka.
He shared these thoughts on his blog.
According to the expert, no matter what topic you talk about now—it inevitably turns into a conversation about war. But not just the war of Russia against Ukraine or Israel against the Gaza Strip, but a total war into which the world has descended. And now, he states, we must learn to live, as philosophers say, “underwater”—we must understand what to do if this flood engulfs the world entirely.
“Let’s acknowledge this reality and learn to live in it, to choose a side in it. I’m not calling for pacifism, not at all. I’m saying we need to clearly identify who our ‘gang’ is and stick with them. There’s no other way for us to survive. Russia is conducting ‘Zapad-2025’ military exercises, while Europe is pretending to be a little berry. It’s time to stop pretending—it’s time for Europe to take a unified position. It may turn out that America is, in fact, on the other side of this beautiful world. Maybe Europe needs to become self-sufficient. Ukraine is definitely part of Europe. We have nowhere else to go. We are clearly with Europe, because if you look at the map, there’s a wall to our right that won’t be overcome for decades,” explains Mikhail Sheitelman.
Overall, he notes, we’ve already lived through a quarter of the 21st century, which means we’ve set its tone—particularly with the Russian-Ukrainian war—just as World War I and revolutions set the tone for the 20th century. What followed, the expert continues, was an attempt to build communism, socialism, and so on—then the collapse of those ideas. From all that, only one gem was salvaged—Swedish socialism, along with social rights and similar achievements.
“And now, unfortunately, we’re throwing all kinds of stuff into this global fan. What will remain by the end of the 21st century as a legacy for our grandchildren, and what will be washed away—or perhaps forgotten—we’ll be analyzing for a long time to come,” concludes Mikhail Sheitelman.
