The West Recognizes Palestine: Expert Says There Will Be Less Focus on the Russia–Ukraine War

Palestine

Political expert and military serviceman Oleksandr Musiyenko commented on the series of recognitions of Palestine by Western countries and explained what this means for Ukraine and whether it will affect the war with Russia, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this in his blog.

According to the expert, Western countries have begun recognizing Palestine — including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, and Portugal — increasing pressure on Israel regarding the situation in Gaza and undermining the Trump administration. The U.S. President, he continues, stated that he needs to consult with his partners, particularly Arab states, to coordinate positions and try to decide what to do next.

“Coordinated actions across three continents will deepen the diplomatic isolation of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. However, the attempts to recognize a Palestinian state have so far not stopped the military campaign against Hamas, which continues. It’s unlikely to change the situation on the ground. It’s a symbolic act of support for Palestinian self-determination. But the fighting continues. Israel is fighting for its freedom,” Musiyenko comments.

Palestine, he reminds, declared its independence back in 1988, and was then recognized by over 80 countries, including the USSR and the Ukrainian SSR. However, the expert notes, this did not impact the overall situation — because, as Trump rightly says: was the October 7 attack not an act of genocide against Israel?

“Now this will somewhat shift the focus toward Palestine. There will be less talk about Ukraine and Russia, which is exactly what Putin needs. The UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and France usually don’t interfere much in Middle Eastern issues — they care more about what’s happening in Europe. But they turned to the Middle East because the situation there is clear and obvious, whereas here it's complicated. So what’s more important for Europeans right now? There’s a problem there and a problem here — but which is closer? Let’s be honest. It should be resolved here, obviously, but they’re deliberately turning away, because, in my opinion, this is a way of escaping the problem in this situation,” Musiyenko concludes.
