Political strategist on a possible Putin-Zelensky meeting in Kazakhstan: “It seems the Americans are preparing the ground precisely there”

Trump-Putin Meeting in Alaska

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman commented on a new potential venue for a meeting between the leaders of Ukraine and Russia — Kazakhstan — and explained why Zelensky would be interested in this and whether Trump would support it, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this in his blog.

“Kazakhstan. Astana. These are the new magic words, with the help of which Trump and Zelensky, joining forces, will try to lure Putin out of his paper lair, out of the paper bear,” emphasizes Mikhail Sheitelman.

After all the meetings and speeches at the UN General Assembly, the expert says, Zelensky gave an interview to Trump’s favorite channel, Fox News. One of the key messages from our president was that he is ready to meet with Putin in Kazakhstan. Interestingly, he notes, the correspondent was surprised by the fact that Zelensky was open to meeting Putin and hadn't invited him to Kyiv — that our president was willing to meet the Russian president on neutral ground.

“He says: ‘If you want, we can meet in Kazakhstan.’ I think this is an asymmetric response to the looming word ‘Minsk.’ After Moscow (editor’s note – Putin’s invitation for Zelensky to come to Moscow), Putin was expected to say ‘Minsk,’ but we beat him to it by saying ‘Kazakhstan, Astana.’ And it seems the Americans are preparing the ground exactly there — on Central Asian soil,” Sheitelman reflects.

Indeed, he notes, during the UN General Assembly, the U.S. made several deals with Central Asian countries. First, he says, a $4 billion deal was signed with Kazakhstan for the supply of American railway locomotives — clearly signaling the development of a transport corridor bypassing Russia. Second, he continues, the U.S. reached an agreement with Uzbekistan to supply 22 Boeing 787 passenger planes for “Uzbekistan Airways,” worth $8.5 billion. It seems, the expert concludes, that America is returning to Central Asia — a region it once abandoned.
