"Trump Decided to Stop Arguing": Expert Explains How Ukraine and Europe Convinced the U.S. of Russia’s Defeat

Political analyst Ruslan Bortnik explained that Trump changed his rhetoric only because of pressure from Ukraine and Europe; in reality, he hasn’t taken any new actions in Ukraine’s favor, reports Politeka.
He discussed this in his blog.
“This is a tactical shift in rhetoric, not linked to any practical steps—no sanctions imposed on Moscow, no resumption of aid to Ukraine, no restrictions on Russia’s main trading partners. None of that is happening. There are no practical actions. This change in rhetoric without real steps is simply another attempt by Trump to put pressure on one side of the conflict,” Bortnik states.
According to the expert, Trump pressures everyone in turn: first, he claimed Ukraine had no leverage and should agree to a territorial swap; then he blamed Europe for not following the U.S. lead; and now he’s disappointed with Putin and Russia, which he now sees as a “paper tiger.” Bortnik explains that this is Trump’s typical business strategy—he wants to make a deal and is looking for a weak spot.
“Trump was under pressure from Europe and Ukraine. He visited the UK, where everyone told him roughly the same thing: Russia is deteriorating, its economy is collapsing, everything is in decline, and there’s no point in making concessions to it. During his meeting with the President of Ukraine, he was told that 300 kilometers of territory had already been liberated, and that the offensive was ongoing. Faced with this pressure and background, I think at some point Trump decided to stop arguing and simply said: ‘Guys, if that’s really the case, then go ahead and fight. You can win back territory,’” Bortnik explains.
Overall, he asserts, Trump is still pursuing a strategy of stepping away from the war. He has moved to the sidelines and is watching “like kids fighting,” limiting his involvement to intelligence sharing and arms sales to Ukraine.
