Air Supremacy: Military Expert Explains Why Peaceful Cities Are Being Bombed

war

Military expert Oleg Starikov explained that air supremacy is critically important in warfare — to destroy the enemy’s military-industrial complex and lower their morale. Without it, ground and naval operations are pointless, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his channel.

"The Russian Federation, which launched an aggressive and treacherous invasion against us, violating all laws and agreements, is essentially applying the doctrine of Giulio Douhet. This Italian general wrote a book called The Command of the Air after World War I, and he is considered the father of so-called carpet bombing. In other words, without aviation and air supremacy, ground and naval operations are impossible," says Oleg Starikov.

Carpet bombing, the expert reminds us, was widely used during World War II — cities like Dresden, Hamburg, and Cologne come to mind. These German cities were wiped off the map, and according to various estimates, 25,000 to 50,000 civilians died. Starikov notes that it was Sir Arthur Harris, head of the Royal Air Force's Bomber Command, who carried out those bombings.

According to the expert, what Douhet wrote and Harris later implemented was subsequently applied in wars in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and is now used by virtually all modern armies to accomplish specific objectives.

"What are those objectives? First — air supremacy. Second — the destruction of anything related to the military-industrial complex, logistics, and even civilian industries producing dual-use goods. And most importantly — to lower the morale and patriotic spirit of the population. This was a core idea in Douhet’s doctrine. Incidentally, Arthur Harris also emphasized this. Everything happening now has already been described in military history, military science, and military practice," explains Oleg Starikov.
