"A Blow to China Is Also a Blow to Russia": Expert Assesses Whether Trump's New Tariffs Will Be Effective

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko stated that Trump has once again raised tariffs on China up to 100%, delivering a gut punch to Xi Jinping — but this blow will primarily affect Russia, according to Politeka.
He shared his thoughts in a blog post.
“This could actually be the tougher sanctions that have been talked about for a long time. In particular, I believe the removal of these tariffs may be conditional on China suspending trade with Russia, especially the purchase of Russian oil and gas. In any case, a blow to China is also a blow to Russia,” Oleksandr Musiienko emphasized.
Thus, the expert notes, U.S.–China relations are intensifying, Trump is acting more sharply and decisively, but he has not yet canceled a planned meeting with Xi Jinping. However, he adds, it’s important to understand that China and the U.S. are constantly negotiating over global trade, the stakes are rising — but for now, this works in our favor.
“We’ll see how it all ends in this direction, because the situation is very complex. Tariffs have already been introduced before, so they may be lifted again. We’ll see what happens this time,” Musiienko said.
The deeper issue, he argues, is that the U.S. and China are arguing over Taiwan, whereas they should be focusing on Russia. Ideally, Trump and Xi would meet in Alaska and divide spheres of influence over Russia — just like with every empire that has collapsed. In the expert's opinion, this is the direction in which American analysts, experts, and media should be working. This is how the key problems can be solved — not through dialogue with Moscow.
