Funds will be available, there is a decision on armament — expert on weapons procurement for Ukraine

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained why, despite calls from the U.S. to buy more weapons for Ukraine through PURL, not all of Europe has joined the initiative yet, Politeka reports.
He described this in his blog.
“Obviously the United States wants to boost its arms market. Obviously they want to support their own defense‑industrial complex in this way. Clearly, there will be some competition here. People ask me why this initiative — which envisages the purchase of urgently needed weapons for Ukraine — doesn’t immediately include all countries. It’s because there isn’t a single approach yet, you have to understand. What would a single approach look like? That we decided: we buy from America, and that’s it,” Musiienko explains.
For example, the expert says, the United Kingdom did not join the PURL initiative, but, as Defence Minister Gili reported, it has already given Ukraine £4.5 billion this year, will supply over 100,000 drones, and is jointly developing advanced interceptor drones with Ukraine. And France, he continues, is actively insisting on protecting its own arms market and is calling for investments in European manufacturers first, and only then to purchase weapons from the U.S.
Moreover, the expert adds, all of this needs to be synchronized with the European Union Readiness plan, which envisages strengthening defense and increasing defense spending and development of the EU’s defense capabilities through 2030. In particular, he notes, this plan foresees increased spending for Ukraine’s needs and on supplying weapons to our country.
“So different plans and spending programs are being developed. That is simply extremely important to understand. Funds will be available, there is a decision on armament,” concludes Oleksandr Musiienko.
