“Our forces are concentrated on deterrent actions”: expert assessed the risks in Pokrovsk

war in Ukraine

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musienko described the situation in Pokrovsk, how Ukrainian forces are containing the enemy, and warned about the risks on this axis, Politeka reports.

He told this in his blog.

“Indeed, today the Dobropillia direction plays the role of holding back Russian forces that cannot be operationally committed directly to the Russian grouping conducting offensive actions against the Pokrovsk–Myrnohrad agglomeration. This is important because Pokrovsk is a priority for the enemy. Forces are concentrated there, the enemy is trying to advance, push out our grouping and straighten the front line here. Our forces are concentrated on deterrent actions, on destroying as many of the enemy and their capabilities as possible. This is already producing results,” Oleksandr Musienko explains.

In particular, he notes, the Russian 155th Marine Brigade, which has repeatedly suffered losses in fighting on various axes and was pulled from the Kursk region and redeployed to Donetsk Oblast to intensify offensive actions on the Pokrovsk axis, has lost combat effectiveness.

“Every measure is being taken to slow the tempo of the enemy’s offensive actions so that, even if Russian forces achieve success in this area, they will not be able to later develop the tempo of a broader offensive operation. It is very important to block them, because if the enemy had quickly crossed this defensive line without heavy losses, Russian forces would certainly have preserved the potential to continue advancing,” emphasizes Oleksandr Musienko.

First, the expert warns, if Russian forces succeed they will move toward Pavlohrad — that is, they will expand a bridgehead in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and seek to link up with the grouping operating on the Novopavlivka axis, so this advance must be blocked. And clearly, he adds, under such a scenario the adversary would operate toward the Slovyansk–Kramatorsk agglomeration, but it is necessary to cut the enemy off from at least one more direction — our units are concentrating on that as well.
