Political scientist explained what Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic are actually aiming for: "It's not about Ukraine"

Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik explained that Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic are primarily opposing Brussels' policies on many issues, and Ukraine is not even one of their top five concerns, according to Politeka.
He shared this in his blog.
"No one is planning any anti-Ukrainian coalition. At most, it's an anti-Brussels one. This is a coalition of conservative governments in Europe against the liberal coalition of Europe. And the Ukrainian issue, believe me, is at best in their second tier of concerns. This coalition aims to lobby for a different model of Europe," says Ruslan Bortnik.
In other words, the expert explains, this conservative coalition wants to preserve a confederative structure with further synchronization in defense and markets, while the Brussels model seeks to subordinate national governments and turn the EU into a federation politically. Therefore, he asserts, this is a struggle between different political approaches within the EU, and it's not only Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia opposing Brussels in this regard; countries like Italy, among others, are also involved.
Moreover, he notes, this is a fight for money, as the EU owes Hungary about 40 billion euros, which are blocked under various programs, with Brussels drying up any financial flows to any conservative government. Additionally, the expert points out that the issue also involves common migration policies.
"And somewhere on the horizon, the Ukrainian issue appears. But trying to label this as an anti-Ukrainian coalition is immediately discrediting this informal alliance. It's strange they didn’t immediately call it a pro-Russian coalition. Do you think they'll get to that? But it's not about Ukraine. Ukraine is a secondary concern here," emphasizes Ruslan Bortnik.
