Budapest as Bait: Expert Explains How Trump Is Luring Putin Into Real Negotiations
Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman explained that Trump doesn’t have any real regard for Orbán or Lukashenko — he simply uses them as bait to catch a bigger fish: Putin, reports Politeka.
He spoke about this in his blog.
According to the expert, Trump is the kind of man who goes after big fish, and doesn’t even bother with the small ones — which, for him, Orbán and Lukashenko are. Therefore, Sheitelman says, if Trump claims to have a good relationship with Lukashenko or calls on people to vote for Orbán, and they take it at face value, then the fools in this situation are Lukashenko and Orbán themselves.
“Who are Orbán and Lukashenko to Trump? Small fry. And how do you use small fish when you’re after a big one? As bait, of course. Small fish are bait. For him, Putin is the big fish. Catching Putin — that’s his goal. To lure him out, catch him, and roast him properly. That’s why he uses Lukashenko as bait for Putin, Orbán as bait for Putin, Budapest as bait for Putin. The objectives are all the same. And the fact that Orbán and Lukashenko don’t understand this — that’s their problem. Trump doesn’t care whom he uses in this sense,” — explained Mikhail Sheitelman.
The expert also noted that for some reason, Trump used to see Zelensky as small fry too — but it turned out he’s more like a piranha: small, aggressive, and biting. Therefore, he can’t be used as bait for Putin.
“For Trump, Putin is a catfish lying low — a big, fat catfish. It has to be pulled up. If you unleash a piranha on it, the piranha will start biting the catfish. That’s exactly what we’re doing now. ‘We’ meaning Ukraine. That’s why Orbán shouldn’t get his hopes up. What do I mean? I don’t believe Trump has any real affection for Orbán. He simply doesn’t care. Orbán doesn’t exist for him,” — concluded Mikhail Sheitelman.
