The expert explained how to counter Russia’s manipulations in negotiations: “We need to use the same methods”

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko commented on an article by former Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi about the role of Russian diplomacy in the war against Ukraine, Politeka reports.

He discussed this in his blog.

According to the expert, Zaluzhnyi wrote an article in the conservative American newspaper The New York Post stating that Russian diplomacy turns negotiations into a front of attrition rather than a search for compromise. Instead of open discussion, we are witnessing ritual speeches, inflexibility, an illusion of dialogue, and systematic time-wasting. Therefore, as the former Commander-in-Chief emphasizes, due to calls for a quick peace that ignore reality, one should not agree to premature deals — this process will take months or even years.

“Zaluzhnyi hints that the negotiation process may drag on and last much longer than some might imagine. We need to approach this thoroughly,” Oleksandr Musiienko stresses.

Indeed, the expert notes, when we talk about stages, the President of Ukraine clearly states the need to first establish a ceasefire, and only then move on to a thorough and lengthy discussion of every detail, every letter, and every point in favor of our national interests. This, he claims, is how we should act — and it’s no coincidence that this approach to a peaceful settlement is supported by the United States.

“Attention to detail. It is very important to use all international mechanisms and elements of international law. Russia, by the way, despite having destroyed all international legal mechanisms and contributed to the dismantling of international institutions, still appeals to international law and, when convenient, actively manipulates its norms — naturally, to its own advantage. We need to use the same methods,” Oleksandr Musiienko asserts.
