“The situation could change dramatically in two hours”: Expert explains what is happening in Pokrovsk

war in Ukraine

Political scientist and Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman Ruslan Biziayev explained that the situation in Pokrovsk resembles a layered pie, and no one in the military can say for sure what is really happening, because everything changes very quickly, reports Politeka.

He discussed this during the program “Dialogues” with Ruslan Bortnyk.

According to the guest of the program, the situation in Pokrovsk is very difficult — there is an ongoing struggle for communications. However, he notes, many people writing about it imagine that battles there are like the Battle of Stalingrad or the fighting in Poznań, but that’s not the case.

“Roughly speaking, sometimes there are just ten soldiers from each side fighting within the area of a single city block. This is modern warfare, and it involves a large number of strike systems that help soldiers accomplish their missions — especially in urban combat. Secondly, everything there is like a kind of layered pie,” explained Ruslan Biziayev.

Therefore, he concludes, the situation is difficult both near Pokrovsk and near Myrnohrad, but assessments depend on who is writing about it, why, and how well they actually understand what’s happening. Those who are directly fighting on the ground, the expert says, do not see the whole picture — they only see their specific sector, they know what’s to their left and right, and their focus is limited to that stretch of the front. Meanwhile, Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad represent a much broader area.

That’s why, Biziayev argues, it’s not necessarily true that if the situation has worsened in one area, it hasn’t improved in another — and overall, the situation can change within an hour.

“In an hour or two, the situation can change completely. But what I’ve noticed over the past few days is that people keep writing in clichés. Certain informational stereotypes are being used, and the analysis is then built on those stereotypes. No soldier will tell you what the real situation is, because no one actually knows it in full — no one can,” concluded Ruslan Biziayev.
