Peace talks in Ukraine: Vance issues ultimatum

Vance

The US will withdraw from the negotiation process to end the war in Ukraine as a mediator if it does not receive a positive response to its peace initiatives from Ukraine and Russia.

This was stated by US Vice President J.D. Vance, Clash Report reports. At the same time, Vance clarified that the Trump administration made a "fair offer" to both Ukrainians and Russians.
"We will refuse to mediate between Russia and Ukraine if we do not receive a positive response. We have made a clear and fair offer to both Russians and Ukrainians," Vance said.

Recall that the US presented a "peace plan" to end the war in Ukraine, which includes US recognition of Crimea as part of Russia and unofficial recognition of Russian control over almost all territories occupied after the 2022 invasion.

What Ukraine gets under Trump’s proposal

“A reliable security guarantee,” including a special group of European countries and possibly also like-minded non-European countries.

The return of a small part of the Kharkiv region occupied by Russia.

Unhindered access to the Dnieper River, which flows along the front line in parts of southern Ukraine.

Compensation and reconstruction assistance.

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant will be considered Ukrainian territory, but will be operated by the United States, and electricity will be supplied to both Ukraine and Russia.

The document also mentions a U.S.-Ukraine agreement on mineral resources.

Russia gets much more under Trump’s proposal

“De jure” U.S. recognition of Russian control in Crimea.

“De facto recognition” of Russian occupation of almost all of Luhansk Oblast and occupied parts of Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts.
Promise that Ukraine will not become a member of NATO, although it is assumed that Ukraine may become part of the European Union.
Lifting of sanctions imposed since 2014.
Expanded economic cooperation with the United States, especially in the energy and industrial sectors.
