Gas Games: Expert Says Ukraine Is Increasing Imports While the U.S. Pushes Russia Out of Markets

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained that Ukraine has managed to negotiate gas imports despite Russian strikes, especially since Washington benefits from pushing Moscow out of the market, Politeka reports.

He discussed this in his blog.

According to the expert, an agreement has been reached with Greece on supplying U.S. LNG to Ukraine and launching the Alexandroupolis–Odesa energy corridor, with the route running through Bulgaria, Romania, and Moldova. He notes that this is particularly important because Russian missile and drone attacks have created gas-related problems for Ukraine, making the country heavily dependent on imports — and more is needed.

“Right now, Ukraine receives most of its gas from Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia. There is commercial and economic interest involved, calculations, but for us it’s about security, because we need to get through the heating season. Meanwhile, Russia is striking our extraction sector and gas production infrastructure to create problems for us, leave us without heat, and provoke a certain collapse. That is what the Kremlin is counting on, which is why such attacks have intensified. And that’s why we need more supplies, we need diversification,” Musiienko explains.

For the United States, he notes, this is an opportunity to gradually push Russia out of the European gas market, sign more contracts, and — naturally — it’s America First: economic benefits, boosting gas production, and profiting from it. In addition, the expert adds, Norway has also promised gas supplies to Ukraine.

“So this is how it is: our energy security will now depend heavily on our partners until we restore everything that Russia has destroyed. And the enemy continues to destroy it — they strike the territory of Ukraine every day and every night. Of course, the restoration process is an ongoing effort for us, and securing gas supplies is extremely important,” Musiienko concludes.
