“Don’t expect a direct clash between the U.S. and Russia”: expert assesses the chances of confrontation

Political analyst Ruslan Bortnik explained that Trump wants to prevent a Third World War by simply ensuring that the United States will not take part in it, Politeka reports.

As the expert notes, Trump says there will be no Third World War, and in this sense one wants to sincerely believe the U.S. president. But it will not happen not because the situation has improved, become softer, or we are witnessing a détente, but because the United States is telling everyone that it will not participate in any of this. That is, he explains, Trump is literally saying that if a Third World War begins, the U.S. simply won’t show up — and therefore it won’t happen.

“Don’t expect a direct confrontation between the U.S. and Russia. What does Trump keep saying? That war is a mistake in general, not his fault, and that the U.S. will not take part in it. This position is, on the one hand, simple, but on the other — people constantly forget about it. Constantly forget. Many in Europe and Ukraine still hope that at some point the U.S. will step in,” Ruslan Bortnik explains.

Meanwhile, he reminds, the U.S. has for the first time effectively confirmed officially that Moscow is demanding the surrender of all of Donbas in exchange for a ceasefire. According to the expert, Secretary of State Rubio said that Russia has put forward demands that Ukraine cannot accept, and that this is the point we have reached.

“Believe me, the U.S. could enter this war only if it were something like 1944 outside. A Normandy-style Allied landing is possible only if the Ukrainian Armed Forces were advancing on Berlin — that is, on Moscow. In other words, only if it were obvious that Russia was losing this war. Then the Allies might help. But as it stands, Trump will certainly avoid such a situation. That is why this scenario looks fantastically unrealistic today,” Ruslan Bortnik concludes.
