The U.S. Demands Quick Decisions: Expert Assessed Whether It’s Worth Fighting for NATO in the Peace Plan

Trump

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko said that the United States is pressuring Ukraine and Europe regarding the peace plan, but three issues remain unresolved — territory, the size of the Armed Forces, and NATO, Politeka reports.

He discussed this on his blog.

According to the expert, there is no deadline for signing a peace agreement, but the U.S. still wants quick decisions — they are hinting at this. In particular, he says, Rubio denied information that Driscoll had claimed Ukraine’s inevitable defeat and Russia’s victory at the front. However, for example, The New York Times writes that Driscoll warned of an imminent Russian strike aimed at the complete destruction of Ukraine’s fuel-energy complex.

“Earlier, information appeared in the Swiss newspaper Le Temps that the President of Finland and the Prime Minister of Italy were planning to visit Trump to discuss negotiations, Europe’s role, the vision of European countries regarding this agreement, and security guarantees. But now the media have no information and there are no official statements from the U.S. that such a meeting took place or is planned in the near future. What happened, and why? Trump is not meeting with Europeans; he wants to distance himself and wait for Ukraine’s decision. These are also signals about Trump’s and his administration’s mood. Despite the absence of deadlines, pressure on Ukraine continues,” Oleksandr Musiienko comments.

And CNN, he says, reports that Ukraine agrees with most of the U.S. plan but has three red lines: handing over territory not captured by Russia, limiting the size of the Armed Forces, and abandoning NATO membership.

“I don’t know why there is so much controversy around NATO. The only unacceptable thing is changing the Constitution under pressure. And recently the NATO Secretary General gave an interview in which he noted that several countries in the Alliance are currently not ready to vote for Ukraine’s membership. Well, if there had been signals from NATO that they were ready to accept us very quickly, then I would understand,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
