Belgium Doesn’t Want to Hand Over €140 Billion of Frozen Russian Assets: Expert Assesses How to Increase Pressure

Europe

Political strategist Mykhailo Sheitelman explained that corruption exists not only in Ukraine, but also in the EU, and therefore Europeans shouldn’t lecture Ukrainians — instead, this should be used as leverage on Belgium regarding Russian assets, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his blog.

According to the expert, in Belgium the former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini has been detained, and police searched the European External Action Service in Brussels, the College of Europe in Bruges, as well as several private homes as part of an investigation into the misuse of EU funds. Another alleged detainee, he adds, is the former Secretary-General of the European External Action Service Stefano Sannino.

"What do I want to say about this? Just one thing. Take a mirror, dear Europeans, and take a good look. And then ask yourselves — who has corruption? You have arrests happening there? Good job, look at that, arrests. Who is being accused of misusing EU funds? Ah, Sannino is being accused of misusing EU funds. And the head of EU diplomacy laundered money through some college in Brussels. How interesting. And these people are going to teach us, forbid us from picking our noses? Seriously?" Sheitelman comments.

On this occasion, the expert recalls that Ukraine was told to accept Russian terms because Ukraine supposedly has corruption. But now, he states, the situation can be turned around and used to Ukraine’s advantage — specifically, by confronting Belgium with the fact that they have corruption and are misusing EU funds, and therefore should transfer €140 billion of Russian assets to Ukraine.

"And Macron still remains the only honest person. He said that France has nothing to teach Ukraine about anti-corruption. And he clearly meant the fact that Sarkozy was sent to prison because Muammar Gaddafi financed his election campaign," Sheitelman emphasizes.
