A New Stage: Expert Reveals What the Talks in London Were About

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman said that the results of President Zelensky’s meeting with European leaders in London remain unknown, but Macron hinted that it’s time to put an end to the Witkoff negotiations, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his blog.

According to the expert, it is very unfortunate that Prime Minister Tusk was not present at the meeting in London, because he is a friend of Ukraine—just like Poland in general. And in Poland’s internal discussion, he says, people write that Poland was not at the negotiating table because of President Nawrocki’s actions.

“They write that Zelensky waved to Larry the cat, who was sitting by the door, and then entered the residence together with Starmer. He and Starmer hugged, everything as it should be. But what interests us, of course, is not Starmer’s cat, Macron’s fox or Merz’s dog, but what they talked about, what they agreed on, and what they didn’t. But they made no public statement afterward, they left in silence. They explicitly said there would be no conversation with the press. But Sky News managed to record a bit and reported what happened before,” Mikhail Sheitelman says.

As the expert notes, he would have liked these three leaders to support Zelensky in this difficult moment, because it is hard for Zelensky to fend off Trump alone. But Starmer brushed it off with standard phrases, while Macron and Merz took a stand against Trump. Merz said, according to Sheitelman, that he is skeptical about certain details of the documents coming from the U.S., while Macron said the main issue is aligning the positions of Europe, Ukraine and the U.S. in order to conclude these peace talks and begin a new stage under the best possible conditions.

“Take note: he wants to conclude these talks and begin a new stage under the best possible conditions for Ukraine. He does not say the talks must end in peace. He says they must be concluded—and new ones must begin. Meaning, let’s throw out this 28-point plan, to translate from diplomatic French. So Macron was the first to openly rebel. Let’s wrap up these talks. This whole mess has been dragging on for a month: Witkoff and Kushner have been messing with our heads, and the Americans in general. And he says: ‘Let’s wind this thing down,’” Mikhail Sheitelman explains.
