We won’t have elections like in Russia: expert assesses whether the U.S. can guarantee Ukraine’s security to hold elections

Trump

Political strategist Mykhailo Sheitelman explained that there will be no elections during the war simply because Trump will not guarantee security, and the Kremlin’s goal is entirely different – to distract us from the war, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

“I’ve seen how Russians have already reacted with joy: ‘Hooray, hooray, Ukraine is going to have elections now!’ Everyone is celebrating. Three hundred million Americans and 140 million Russians are cheering because Ukraine will finally have democracy and elections. They’ve apparently installed a democratic regime here. That is, Russians — who killed, destroyed, buried their democracy, mixed it with excrement and threw it in the trash — and the White House, which is doing this right now, are very happy that Ukraine will supposedly have an island of democracy. Since they failed, at least we should succeed. I think there will be no elections, of course, because this requirement for the U.S. to guarantee security is exactly like Aesop’s fable: ‘Xanthus, drink the sea!’ So go on, Trump, you want us to hold elections — guarantee security then?”, Sheitelman comments.

He explains that for elections to take place, the Russians would have to commit to not shelling Ukrainian territory for a long period of time, because it’s not just one voting day — there are debates, campaign advertising, and so on. In addition, the expert adds, the military must be able to vote, meaning they must have the opportunity to fully participate in the process, including putting forward their own candidates so they can organize campaign tours.

“We’re not going to make a fake. Our elections won’t be like in Russia, held on tree stumps, right? They will be real democratic and free elections. That’s the point. We won’t let them kill our democracy by saying, ‘Just hold some kind of election so we can later claim you had them,’” Sheitelman emphasizes.

Furthermore, the expert notes, one should not think that if Zelensky wins these elections, the Russians will recognize him. No — they will say it was all illegal and improper because Arestovych didn’t take part, or someone else didn’t. Therefore, he concludes, we won’t prove anything; the Russians have a different goal — to destabilize society and distract us from the war.
