“Washington Has Given the Green Light”: Expert Assesses What Mission the Coalition of the Willing Is Preparing in Ukraine

Political analyst and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko said that after talks in Berlin, where the United States expressed readiness to provide Ukraine with security guarantees, the Coalition of the Willing also became engaged, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his blog.
“Europeans once again confirmed that they are guided by Washington’s position. Immediately, the Coalition of the Willing began talking about security guarantees for Ukraine, about allocating aid packages, about supplying weapons, and even about the possibility of deploying troops. This is actually very important; it is an issue that had been put on hold and was awaiting a decision,” Oleksandr Musiienko emphasizes.
According to the expert, the Europeans’ statement refers to the creation of forces under European leadership, consisting of contributions from various countries, and these forces would help guarantee the security of Ukraine’s airspace and the sea, in particular through actions inside Ukraine. In his words, “actions inside Ukraine” should be interpreted as a military presence, while at sea it would likely involve patrols, which would need to be coordinated with Turkey and involve naval vessels.
However, the expert notes that Ukraine needs more air defense systems to protect the southern regions that are suffering from Russian terror, while at sea Ukraine is coping on its own—we see regular strikes, including recently against a submarine in Novorossiysk. Nevertheless, he states that this activation of the Coalition of the Willing means they have aligned themselves with Washington’s direction, since the United States has also begun talking about security guarantees.
“To reach this decision, it took about half a year, perhaps even more. These issues were discussed back in May, even at the end of April, when there was another attempt to hold negotiations ahead of the Istanbul meetings. It was then that the Coalition of the Willing met in London and discussed similar options, but they honestly and openly admitted that they were still waiting for the U.S. position—that it was very important for them to obtain America’s consent and support, because only then could such guarantees exist. Now, judging by everything, Washington has given the green light; this issue has moved forward. And we are talking about multinational forces—this topic has taken on new contours,” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.
