Legal Hydra: Expert Explained Why the US Peace Plan is Impossible to Sign

Political technologist Mikhail Sheitelman explained that, in general, the latest version of the US peace plan is not dangerous for us, but it is unpleasant. However, there are still too many unresolved issues, according to Politeka.
He shared this in his blog.
As the expert notes, Zelensky suggested that it would even be possible to hold elections and a referendum simultaneously, but the referendum would cover the entire peace plan, not just the withdrawal of troops from certain areas. Naturally, he points out, no one will allow voting in Russia or on the occupied territories.
"Is such an agreement dangerous for us? I don't see any major hidden pitfalls here. Is it unpleasant for us? Of course. We are allowing Russians to temporarily occupy some territories—this is very unpleasant. Stealing part of our electricity is very unpleasant. But for me, this agreement seems like a regressive detailing, an escalation of reservations, a deal with a leaking logic, and a legal hydra, because there are still open questions. And as soon as we start delving into them, everything gets worse," Mikhail Sheitelman reflects.
In particular, he points out that it is unclear when this agreement should come into force—whether it should be signed now or after the referendum. Also, whether it is possible to divide and how to describe a free economic zone on paper if one will exist. That is, as the expert explains, if we agree to this peace plan first and then prepare for elections and a referendum, it will be voting for the summer, and during this time, the war will continue, with the paper just gathering dust on the table, as if someone will sign it. He also adds that Zelensky said that for the elections, the US should negotiate a ceasefire, but the issue of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) and the territories remains unresolved, and, fundamentally, sanctions too—since Europe will not lift them—along with reparations, as losses continue to grow while hostilities persist.
"You understand that this is a huge accumulation of (various points of the plan with different players), because this is really an attempt to define a new world order. And signing this is simply unrealistic, in every sense," emphasizes Mikhail Sheitelman.
