Political Expert and Serviceman on Trump-Putin Talks: “There Are Secret Deals Through Covert Channels”

Donald Trump, Putin

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko stated that the U.S. is exerting diplomatic pressure on Ukraine, while Russia continues its attacks, emphasizing the importance of uniting with Europe to achieve a just peace, as reported by Politeka.

He shared his views in his blog.

“Trump is trying to understand Putin. Now even U.S. Secretary of State Rubio is trying to understand him, searching for ways to do so, and claims in an interview that they now better understand Russia’s position. What exactly do you understand? The campaign of terror, the violation of international law, the destruction of the global order?” Musiienko commented.

He points out that we are witnessing pressure from the U.S., with open statements indicating that the White House is dissatisfied with Ukraine’s stance in negotiations, suggesting Ukraine is not moving in the right direction. At the same time, the expert notes that President Zelenskyy reminded Trump why the U.S. cannot recognize Crimea as Russian. Back in 2018, during Trump’s first term, the U.S. issued the Crimea Declaration, and consistency in foreign policy should matter.

“But the pressure is evident: the American delegation did not come to London, there are statements by Rubio, Vance, and ultimately Trump himself, claiming he already has agreements with Putin. It is likely that some secret dealings are happening with the Russian dictator through covert channels. After this, it is hard to consider the American president a full-fledged leader of the free world, unfortunately. Because in my understanding, a true leader of the free world cannot be making deals with terrorists,” Musiienko emphasizes.

However, he notes, the U.S. has so far failed to pressure Ukraine effectively, which frustrates Putin, leading him to escalate with missile and drone strikes. In this context, the expert argues, Europe’s stance is crucial—to stand as a pillar of support. Yet that is not guaranteed, as The Financial Times reports that the UK, France, and Germany are seeking tools to pressure Ukraine, fearing a U.S. withdrawal from the peace track. Overall, he reflects, Europe is currently weak, and must rally around Ukraine, which stands as a regional leader.
