Responsibility for the fate of our country: an expert assessed whether we need a referendum on the peace plan

election

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained that Ukraine will not recognize the occupied territories as Russian, but a referendum can be held, since the source of power is the people, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

As Zelensky stated at a press conference after the meeting, the security guarantees are agreed upon 100%, and the peace agreement itself is 95% agreed, meaning that the sides are indeed at the finish line. Obviously, he notes, the issue of Donetsk region remains, but Trump and Zelensky allowed for the possibility of holding a referendum. However, the expert emphasizes that this referendum will not call into question Ukraine’s territorial structure; our politicians will not frame the issue that way, and all pro-Russian figures have fled.

“Therefore, the question will not concern territories. Ukraine recognizes all its territories within internationally recognized borders and will never recognize temporarily occupied territories as Russian. This is taboo. The question may be posed more broadly about the peace plan as a whole—do you agree with it or not. And the second issue concerns a free economic zone in Donetsk region, which offers a chance to stop the hostilities,” Oleksandr Musiienko asserts.

He also emphasizes that Ukraine will use this pause during the referendum period, as stated by National Guard Commander Pivnenko. According to him, the expert says, no one will relax; Ukraine will prepare, there will be training, and this is what the military are saying.

“What is strange about proposing a referendum? What is strange if, according to the Constitution, the bearer of power in Ukraine is the Ukrainian people? So why not consult them? Moreover, Zelensky said back in his inaugural speech that each of us is the president. Isn’t that so? So let us also think about the fact that each of us bears responsibility for the fate of our country, for our future. I believe in the wisdom of the Ukrainian people. Therefore, these scenarios should not be dismissed either,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
