Artificial Intelligence and Education: A Professor Assesses the Benefits and Risks of New Technologies

Professor Innola Novikova explained that artificial intelligence can be used in education, but not in a way that does all the work for you; rather, it should serve as a tool for searching and analysis, Politeka reports.

She spoke about this on the program “Personality with Serhii Doiko.”

As the program’s guest emphasizes, education is a mirror of a country, so if there are changes and if artificial intelligence exists, one cannot say that it should not be used. According to her, saying so would simply mean falling behind.

“There is ethics—ethical scientific and educational principles. Therefore, artificial intelligence must be used in a way that does not cross the ethical line and these requirements. If you use artificial intelligence solely from the standpoint that it writes something for you, that is unethical, in my view. On the other hand, if you use it as a tool, why not? If we did not use cars, we would walk. Who would benefit from that? You would spend five days walking somewhere instead of getting there in an hour or two. It is the same with artificial intelligence,” Innola Novikova explains.

She also reminds us that in the past people went to libraries, took notes, photocopied materials, and waited for books. Now, the professor notes, if you ask students when they last went to study at the Vernadsky Library, no one can answer, because all the necessary information is now freely available on the internet.

“Therefore, artificial intelligence is wonderful if we use it as a tool—for example, to create images, or as a tool for searching information, or as a tool for analysis. You create an algorithm, give it to artificial intelligence, and it helps you—that’s great,” Innola Novikova concludes.
