A New Stage of War: Expert Explains How Drones Have Changed Combat Tactics

Military expert Oleg Starikov explained that because of drones, armored vehicles are now used only to transport personnel, while offensive operations increasingly resemble guerrilla warfare.
He spoke about this on his channel.
According to the expert, drones have indeed caused a revolution in military affairs, completely changing combat tactics both on the ground and in low-altitude airspace. Moreover, he adds, there are virtually no air defense systems for low-altitude air targets yet; only now are they beginning to be developed.
“Unmanned systems have completely discredited heavy combat equipment and tanks. In other words, the platform exists, but if it is used according to the old doctrine, it survives about three minutes on the battlefield. So what are tanks and armored vehicles used for now? To transport personnel. A million-dollar combat vehicle is destroyed just to drop off ten assault troops. The platform exists, but the doctrine for its use has not been worked out. Now they will be developing a doctrine for its employment,” Oleg Starikov explains.
In addition, the expert emphasizes that the use of unmanned systems has changed infantry tactics. Now, he notes, there are no battalion or brigade columns that line up, concentrate, strike, break through the enemy’s defenses, commit main forces, reach operational depth, and encircle the enemy.
“Now it’s completely different. Forces disperse, then move in small groups of two or three people, infiltrate, dig in, hide, wait, conduct reconnaissance, identify the enemy’s drone control points, and after receiving a command immediately begin combat operations using guerrilla-style, reconnaissance-and-sabotage methods. That is, the city becomes saturated with enemy personnel, and after the command they emerge from hiding places like partisans and begin fighting. The result is a kind of chaotic mix in the city,” Oleg Starikov concludes.
