Europeans and Russians Have a Goal on the Territory of Ukraine: An Expert Spoke About Political Goals in the War

Military expert Oleh Starikov explained that in war it is not enough to have only a military goal; there must обязательно be a political one as well, because tactics without strategy is the path to defeat, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his channel.
“A war has political, humanitarian, and military goals. The military goal is to win the battle, the decisive engagement, to defeat the army so that it can no longer resist. The humanitarian goal is to cause a humanitarian catastrophe—we see this goal on the part of the Russian Federation. We also see a political goal—to ensure that there is no threat to Russia from Ukraine, NATO blocs, and the like. So I ask myself the question: what is our goal during the war? In 2022 I understood both the political and military goals; in 2023 as well; in 2024 I began to no longer see them; in 2025 I did not see them, and in 2026 I still do not see them,” explains Oleh Starikov.
According to the expert, it is possible to defeat the enemy, to destroy its army, yet not win the war; and it is possible to win a battle but lose the war. Tactics without strategy, he emphasizes, is the path to defeat, while strategy without tactics is something sluggish.
If we speak about the borders of 1991, the borders of 2014, the borders of 2022, or the line of contact, the expert explains, this is a military goal, not a political one, because it is about pushing the enemy out and winning on the battlefield. But no, he states, there is no political goal—and if we talk about the desire to be part of the Western world, that is a different matter.
“The Russian Federation is in an ideological confrontation with the West, with Europe—not with America, but specifically with Europe. Russia is fighting Europe; they are fighting them. Europeans and Russians have a goal on the territory of Ukraine. And what is our goal? Are we standing on the front line of class struggle? Are we the vanguard detachment of the European Union, the Coalition of the Willing?” Oleh Starikov concludes.
